Perfect Director, Miranda Nolan:
“As we are inundated with reports of the darkest and most destructive sides of human nature, we can suffer increasing feelings of isolation, hopelessness and a fear of ourselves and each other.
Art can serve to remind us of the intrinsic capacity human beings have for communion, compassion and love. Our shared joke with a stranger, a smile or a simple act of kindness has the force to break through our fear and manifest itself in meaningful connection.
In a world where we are constantly distracted it is easy to miss those brief moments. During this age of dating apps and the breakdown of community, as we experience an increasing sense of isolation and separateness, I wanted to explore the power of serendipity and leaning into those moments of pure connection.
What happens when we find the courage to push through the social conditions that make us look back down at our iPhone and break eye contact with a fellow commuter?
What happens if we stick our necks out, risk rejection and invite someone to sit next to us, share a table, have a conversation?
My aim was to celebrate and reflect the power and capacity that we all have, to love and to see the beauty in each other. I have always been fascinated by the bittersweetness of nostalgia, the unstoppable loss of youth that runs through our lives at each stage and our own unique yet common relationship with memory and time.”
